This project followed the brief of hosting a fictional film week at the Edinburgh Filmhouse on Lothian Road. We had to choose out of a list of directors, which one we wanted to design for.
I chose to do the Coen Brothers because I love their films, they’re one my favourite directors and each film they make has such strong visual presence that I thought it would be enjoyable to work with and brainstorm. I certainly found a lot of themes I could work with for this project, but eventually decided to stick to one main theme of Abstract Nature. Their films are full of abstract situations and stories, as well as mostly being filmed outside during adventures. I had the idea to just make simplistic posters that celebrate natural landscapes present in their films, particularly that of mountains. I played around with the positioning of each element, and found it worked best on its side, while the typography takes most of the page.
