This is my book jacket design that I submitted for the Penguin Random House Awards. Out of the three books that we could choose from, I chose Talking Turkeys by Benjamin Zephaniah, as I believed it to have the most interesting themes out of all. I found Zephaniah's book to explore themes that are so current today, such as animal rights, love, racism, revolution, sexism & many more that affect the world we live in!
Taking inspiration from a beautiful photograph I took of my friend years ago in South Africa, I digitally illustrated the composition onto a graphic background of meticulously drawn turkeys that when duplicated over & over, made an attractive wallpaper, almost looking like embassy stamps. On the back cover I took it a step further by illustrating bold globes into the turkeys body. I wanted to gain a visual scope on a variety of themes this book encompasses, while creating an aesthetic and visually appealing design alongside.
